Euro Cuisine YMX650 Automatic Yogurt Maker

The YMX650 Automatic Yogurt Maker is the top of the line product from Euro Cuisine. It stands apart from the less expensive models in the range both in terms of looks and features.

In the looks department, the YMX650 has been given a 'European' look with brushed stainless steel accents. And the overall design makes it look like a much more capable machine.

In terms of features, this yogurt maker contains a built-in digital timer and automatic shut-off. The timer uses a blue LED display and can be set for anything up to 15 hours in 1 hour increments. The time remaining will be shown on the display for the duration of the maturing process. The unit produces an audible alert (beeping sound) when incubation is complete.

Another distinguishing feature is the separate lid storage. Built into the top of the unit is a separate compartment designed for storing the lids of the yogurt jars when not in use. Hardly a critical factor in the decision making process, but a useful feature none the less.

One of the most useful features (to me at least) is the calender setting built into the lids of each of the yogurt jars. Using this handy device, you'll be able to mark each jar with the date the contents were made. That way if you end up with a collection of jars from different batches in the fridge, you'll know what to eat first and even what's still safe to eat.

As with the other yogurt makers from Euro Cuisine, the YMX650 comes with 7 six ounce jars (including the screw on lids with built-in calender settings as just discussed), a 3 year warranty, power cord storage and operating instructions.

The only difficulty is that YMX650 yogurt machine can be difficult to find. I haven't been able to find any retailers online who sell it. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

Euro Cuisine YM100 Yogurt Maker

The YM100 yogurt maker is the middle model of the Euro Cuisine range offering slightly more than the YM80 but not approaching the number of bells and whistles offered by the top of the line YMX650.

The main differentiating feature of the YM100 when compared to the YM80 is the auto shut-off feature. This allows you to mix up your yogurt culture, milk and any other ingredients then just set the timer and let it go. You don't need to remember to turn the unit off at the end of the incubation period.

Like its little sibling, the YM100 comes with a set of 6 oz glass jars in which to make the yogurt (7 jars in total). The jars are placed right in the incubator for 'cooking' then on completion the screw top lids can be fitted and the end product refrigerated prior to consumption

Euro Cuisine YM100 Yogurt Maker features:
  • the incubator unit itself comprising the heating base and a see-through upper cover,
  • 7 individual 6 ounce dishwasher safe glass jars including lids,
  • timer with auto shut-off,
  • 3 Year warranty,
  • power cord storage and
  • operating instructions.

The only real criticism I have heard about the YM100 is to do with the auto shut-off feature. Some buyers have questioned the usefulness of such a feature. The nature of the yogurt making process means that the longer heat is maintained, the longer the bacteria remain active - and this changes the character and flavor of the resultant product. Critics argue that the enclosed incubator maintains the heat even after the power turns off, therefore extending the incubation period. The end result is that you'll need to be around anyway to remove the jars from the unit and to refrigerate them so it makes the timer redundant. If you subscribe to this logic, you may be better off saving yourself 10 dollars by choosing the YM80.

The YM100 retails for around $40.

Euro Cuisine YM80 Yogurt Maker

The YM80 is the entry level model of the Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker range. For around $30 you can get hold of the YM80 and get started in your quest for the perfect healthy and nutritious snack.

The YM80 produces 42 ounces of homemade yogurt. Using six ounce jars allows you to mix things up a little. Why not try different flavors in each jar? The kids may like theirs a little sweeter while mum and dad want to cut down on their sugar in-take. The jars each come with a screw-on lid allowing for easy storage of the finished product.

Extra jars are also available so you can start making that next batch of yogurt while still slurping through the one you just made (or maybe you're just a little disorganized like me and not all of the jars make it through your washing up in time).

Euro Cuisine YM80 Yogurt Maker features:
  • the incubator unit itself comprising the heating base and a see-through upper cover,
  • 7 individual 6 ounce dishwasher safe glass jars with accompanying lids,
  • time indicator,
  • 3 Year warranty,
  • power cord storage and
  • operating instructions.
The operating instructions tell you how to make plain yogurt as well as some flavored varieties (including coffee flavor if you'd like to try something a little left of center...)

The main thing to point out in the above feature list is the time indicator. It's really just a reminder of what time you'll need to turn of the machine - it wont automatically turn the power off for you. I don't see this as a huge drawback, rather just something you should be aware of.

While the feature list is basic compared to some of the other models on the market, Euro Cuisine's YM80 yogurt maker has everything you'll need to make your own organic home style yogurt.

Euro Cuisine Yogurt Makers

Euro Cuisine Yogurt Makers come in a range of 3 models that should suit most people's domestic requirements and budgets.

The company behind this brand wholesale a number of small household appliances with a focus on small kitchen appliances, utensils and supplies. They are based in California.

All models in the Euro-Cuisine range have the following features:
  • They all come with 7 x 6 ounce glass jars;
  • All have a 3 year warranty; and
  • All feature power cord storage for convenience when the unit is not in use.

I think the glass jars are a great feature. They are healthy and hygienic because they are easily cleaned and sterilized. And they're great for the environment - no plastic containers and packaging going into landfill.

The Euro Cuisine Range:

Euro Cuisine YM80 Yogurt Maker

This is the entry level option of the range. In addition to the features common to all of machines in this range (as listed above), the YM80 also has a time indicator.

Euro Cuisine YM100 Yogurt Maker

This is the next step up in the range. The main advantage offered by the YM100 over its little brother is an auto shut-off feature. This will turn off the machine after a predefined time period thereby making the most time consuming part of the whole process a little more convenient. The only negative feedback I've heard in regard to this feature, is that the lid keeps maintains the heat even after the power is switched off, thereby allowing the yoghurt to continue incubating (cooking) beyond the desired time and producing a product not quite to everyone's liking.

Euro Cuisine YMX650 Digital Automatic Yogurt Maker

As the fancy name suggests, here is the top of the line model. It features a 15 hour timer with audible alarm and auto shut-off when yogurt is ready. One of the great features of the YMX650 is the date setting on the lids of each of the jars. Using the calendar setting, you can dial up the date so you'll know exactly when you made the yogurt and when it's still safe to eat.
